5 Outstanding Coffee Shops with WiFi in Kona Hawai’i
If you find yourself on an extended working holiday in paradise, as I repeatedly do, then you’re probably on the hunt for a strong signal and an equally strong cup of coffee. Sometimes that can be hard to find in the more remote destinations. Fortunately, even though Hawai’i is 2400 miles from the mainland, we’re spoiled for choice when it comes to coffee shops with wifi in Kona, Hawai’i.
Some other perks these coffee shops all offer:
- walking distance in Kailua-Kona Village
- they take credit/debit cards
- as promised, free wifi and great coffee!
The island of Hawai’i is a rugged, tropical paradise where coffee is perfectly suited to grow. Kona, on the sunset side, has developed a reputation as one of the finest coffee growing regions in the world.
With that said, if you feel you need to drink 100% estate-grown Kona coffee every time you need a jolt or need to get some work done then you’re going to pay a pretty penny for it.
My recommendation: tour a coffee farm, see the coffee production process firsthand, and enjoy a free tasting at the end! Here’s a big list of some of the best coffee farms around Kona and what they offer.
Then you can just go for the house drip or whatever your heart desires at these five outstanding coffee shops with wifi in Kona, Hawai’i!
1. Island Lava Java
I just love this place. I take all my family and friends here when they come to visit. It’s more like a restaurant but they do have great coffee and free wifi. Plus, it’s on Ali’i Drive which is the main strip along the water in Kona town, so the view is spectacular.
I’ve never had any trouble getting my work done here but if you think the open air, crashing waves, or people putting back Mai Tai’s at 10am would distract you then maybe keep reading.
What to order: L.J. Organic Brew ($5.95), 100% Kona Coffee Cold Brew ($7), or the Lava Java Shake ($8.95-$9.95)
Bonus tip: If you get the most basic coffee for “dine in” which is still super tasty, it comes as a 16oz with one free refill!
2. Kona Heaven Coffee
Not even a block down from Island Lava Java on Ali’i Drive, you’ll find Kona Heaven Coffee which used to be Kona Haven Coffee. This place is great if you want fewer distractions but still amazing coffee and ambiance. What I love the most is that all the seats face out to the ocean.
You’ll find the wifi password posted right by the cream and sugar station. It’s one of the more reliable wifi outposts on this list, as I’m always able to connect both my phone and laptop, it’s fast, and doesn’t cut out. There’s also a range of coffees to try from 10% to 100% Kona coffee, so you can be thrifty or spend big here.
What to order: Cold brew or the Lava Latte ($8.80)
3. HiCO
Okay, color me bummed I did not discover this place until 2 days before I flew out but you already know I’ll be back. This place tops the list for its moody islander aesthetic, strong wifi, and great drinks. It was late in the day so I just ordered one of the summer drink specials, which was pretty good.
They have a huge variety of drinks from coffee to cocktails. When you get hungry or need to go for a walk, it’s located in a hip gathering place called Brew with lots of other trendy shops and restaurants like Willie’s Hot Chicken next door.
What to order: Ube latte ($6.50-$8.50)
Bonus tip: When I was there, they had a promo that if you leave a review you get a free sticker!
4. Waimea Coffee Company at Pacific 19
Looking for a hidden gem that is so close to the beaten path you won’t have to go far to feel like you’re experiencing something special? Navigate to “Pacific 19” which is a boutique hotel right off the main drag that feels surprisingly local. The decor is modern with a luxurious base camp aesthetic.
Here you’ll find a yellow grid-lined coffee truck serving up some of the finest coffee in Kona. This is Waimea Coffee Company’s Kona location and after you grab a drink you can choose to sit outside overlooking the pool or inside the hotel lobby (my preference). If the wifi gives you any trouble, just ask one of the staff team – they’re always super happy to help.
What to order: Espresso Doppio ($3.65) or The Dark Side, a specialty cortado exclusively available at this location
Bonus tip: They close at 1pm, so make it your morning spot.
5. Kona Coffee and Tea
A local favorite! This place is geared toward getting work done so you’ll find good wifi and plenty of outlets inside and out. Like the other places on this list, it’s walking distance if you’re staying in Kona town and they’re also open until at least 6pm which makes it super convenient.
I also love that it’s family-run and has a real farm-to-cup feeling. They invite you to come, stay a while, and savor the experience while still being totally laptop-friendly.
What to order: Kona Bullet with grass-fed butter and coconut oil
Honorable Mention Coffee Shops with WiFi in Kona
Arise Kona Bakery and Cafe – I wanted to include them because they’re Christian-owned and the one of the prettiest cafes I’ve ever been to but their wifi is so slow, it’s almost non-existent. It’s a great place for a business or ministry meeting though!

I’ve been to Hawaii some 15 times and am thankful for the great wifi, particularly now as a remote worker. Next time in Kona, I will know exactly where to go.
So blessed! Hawaii always keeps me coming back for more. Maybe we’ll bump into each other at one of these cafes someday!
What a useful post! Kona Heaven Coffee especially looks wonderful 🙂
It’s a fun one! Great for catch ups with friends.
I am not a big coffee drinker, but my husband is soooo much more fun after his morning brew, that I still tend to watch out for good cafes like this 🙂
Which of these had the best pastries/breakfast options? The giant muffins in Island Lava Java look pretty good! I’m also intrigued by the Ube late in HiCO!
Good question! Yes, that coconut bran muffin from Lava Java is to die for especially warm with butter. It’s so filling too!
I love finding beautiful and unique coffee shops when I travel, thank you for sharing these awesome recommendations! Those muffins made me hungry, haha!
They are SO good! Coconut bran muffin with butter is my go to!
